Singing in a choir is a profoundly rewarding experience.
Choral Workshops
Ken tailor-makes workshops to suit individual choirs and groups, bringing diverse music and energising leadership. Whether you are running a choral camp or festival, or want your choir to experience something different, Ken will arrange engaging sessions to fit your choir’s goals and schedule. Ken enjoys introducing singers to new music that they may not have experienced before or simply introducing them to a different way of interpreting what they already know. Whilst Ken enjoys engaging with a range of musical styles, he is particularly passionate about arrangements of African music and Negro spirituals. Ken believes a concert should be the byproduct of a fun process of rehearsing. He is known for running positive and uplifting workshops, encouraging rhythm and movement and bringing smiles to people’s faces – young and old alike.
Ken has led workshops for Europa Cantat, the British National Choral Charity, Brighton Festival Youth Choir and the University of Sussex chamber choir
Choral Director
Ken has broad experience establishing and directing new choirs – from schools and universities, to workplaces and community groups. He embraces varying abilities and always seeks to build an inclusive choral space. He is passionate about the power of choral music in bringing people together and fostering peace. Ken believes every organisation should consider having a choir as an opportunity to break barriers and promote well-being. This could be as a short-term project for a specific event or as a longer term undertaking. Ken enjoys the process of meeting new people, getting to know the needs of a group and building a cohesive choir membership. He is adept at selecting music and managing programmes to suit a group’s vision and abilities.
As well as being the founding director of the Nairobi Chamber Chorus, Ken has established and led the Safaricom workplace choir. He has directed the Nairobi Music Society, Precious Blood Secondary School and the Africa Nazarene University choirs in Nairobi, Kenya.

Collaborations
Ken’s passion for music as a vehicle to promote peace, understanding and cultural exchange has led him to develop collaborative projects that bring together diverse musicians under one banner. Ken has worked alongside many choral conductors, composers and singers around to the world to bring new compositions and arrangements of Kenyan folk tunes to wider audiences. Ken is always keen to explore new opportunities to work with like-minded musicians to build new ways to share cultural heritage and explore new music together.
With the Nairobi Chamber Chorus he has led collaborative performances of new and reimagined works bringing fresh experiences to singers and their audiences alike. Together with Dr. Kevin Fenton, he co-founded AVoice4Peace which seeks to promote non-violent resolutions to conflict around the world through choral music and with the help of technology, they led a worldwide campaign bringing together thousands of singers from around the world in singing an African prayer for peace that was streamed online. They also produced a documentary – Avoice4Peace. Ken is currently leading the Nairobi Chamber Chorus as part of the electrifying World of Hans Zimmer and Hans Zimmer Live productions touring Europe, the United States of America, Australia and Asia.
Choral Ambassador
Ken enjoys the opportunity to lead workshops on African choral music introducing choirs from outside the continent to music from the African heritage. African music comes from a rich cultural background where music is part and parcel of people’s daily lives and Ken loves to bring this music to new audiences. He equally enjoys introducing African choirs to music from other continents and cherishes the great power of music in creating new experiences for singers through it’s natural communicative potential.
Ken has led African choral music ateliers for the European Choral Association’s Europa Cantat, the British National Choral Charity – Sing for Pleasure, Brighton Festival Youth Choir and the University of Sussex chamber choir. With the Nairobi Chamber Chorus, he has premiered many new compositions by composers from around the world in Kenya, Andre Thomas, Stacey Gibbs, Moses Hogan, Shawn Kirchner, Gavin Greenaway, as well as representing Africa at the Queen of England’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012.
All these have earned Ken recognition as the Choral Ambassador – the New African Magazine, African Image Maker – the Voice Achievers Award International and a membership into the Nexus Global Leadership Council for his exemplary contributions to the Choral Art – Nexus Arts and Culture.
